Hunting season is here and the Sundance Motel welcomes hunters to the Pinedale, Wyoming area.

A large area around Big Piney was burned in the summer fires above La Barge and Big Piney, Wyoming. This may have an effect on the hunting season.

Deer Hunting

The areas around Pinedale are 138, 139, 140, 141, and 142 with some additional areas such as 154 and 162 nearby as well.

Deer Hunting Season for bucks in the Pinedale Areas run Sept. 15 through Oct. 5.

50 licenses for any white tail are available from Oct. 1 through Nov. 30.

Antelope Hunting

The areas around Pinedale are 87,88,89,90, and 91.

Antelope season starts on Sept. 10.  Permits in these areas vary depending upon the permit area so check the map at the link below.

The areas around Pinedale are 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, and 99.

The areas around Pinedale are 3,4,5, 22 and 25.

We’re in the thick of the 2012 Green River Rendezvous and everything is bustling.

Phone Problem in Pinedale – Friday 7/13/12

Did you experience the CenturyTel phone outage today in Pinedale? Internet service and phone service in and out of Pinedale didn’t work on 7/13/2012.

Why? There is a cut fiber optic cable that has prevented CenturyTel phone and internet service for Pinedale. The repair should be done within 48 hours (I hope sooner). Good thing we have cell phones, or Pinedale would be completely isolated. I just checked Big Piney and it is having problems too. How far does this outage stretch?

Rendezvous Parade – Saturday 7/14/12 (11am)

Join the Pinedale locals as they celebrate the Green River Rendezvous 2012 with a parade down Pine Street. If you’re staying overnight, check with us to see if we have a room for you. The parade will pass right by us!

The Green River Rendezvous is just around the corner. If you are excited about it as we are, you may be wondering what kind of events are scheduled for this year. We’ll post links as we learn more but be sure to be in Pinedale on the dates below:

Thursday July 12th through Sunday July 15th.

We don’t have a schedule to post yet, but judging from previous years, you can expect the following:

Trader’s Row – Open Air Market – usually open all 4 days

A market with a mountain man flair. Find knives, beadwork, pelts, period clothing, and other fun shopping. Even better, the shopping is just a couple of blocks from the Sundance Motel (or maybe that isn’t so great – for the pocketbook )

Museum of the Mountain Man (MUM) Presentations – All 4 days

If you’ve never been to these presentations, you’re in for a treat. The exhibits and presentations are geared toward history buffs but are interesting for all groups and ages.

If you get a chance to listen to Michael Terry, take advantage of it. I always have a hard time tearing myself away from his talks. He’s very interesting and his command of the Indian history is legendary.

2012 Green River Rendezvous Days Museum Schedule

The Sundance Motel is a short walk from the MUM at the base of the hill.

Green River Rendezvous Parade – Saturday

This start off the celebration. It proceeds down the main street in Pinedale (Pine Street) right past the Sundance Motel. The parade features normal floats but also has people dressed as Indians, Trappers, and Cowboys. Nothing puts you in the Rendezvous spirit faster than being among people dressed in the garb of the era.

Rendezvous Rodeos – Each Evening

Don’t go to bed early – you’ll be missing one of the best treats in Wyoming. Take in the outdoor evening rodeo and watch the best of the local rodeo talent. You’ll be amazed at the skills from these performers as they showcase their “day job” talents.

Green River Rendezvous Pagent – Sunday

The culmination of the entire Rendezvous is the re-enactment of the early Rendezvous. Locals have been re-living the Rendezvous since 1936 so there is a lot of history and a lot of pride put into this. You’ll feel a part of the first get-togethers – now this is REAL 3D. One of the largest natural gas fields in the United States can be found near Big Piney and Pinedale, Wyoming. New extraction techniques have made this a giant of natural gas production in the United States. The Jonah Field is located in Southwest Wyoming.

The untapped potential was discovered in the early 1990s by a Wyoming company – McMurry Oil. The startling thing about the Jonah field is the vast amount of natural gas in a small area. The surface area is about 1 township but contains 10.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

If you’re not familiar with the town of Pinedale but you’re an outdoor enthusiast, you may be interested to hear that the Sundance Motel has rooms that are just a few blocks from the Pinedale Aquatic Center.  The Pinedale Aquatic Center is a state-of-the-art excercise facility and it doesn’t just offer swimming pools.  Although in all fairness, the lap pool is one of the best in the state of Wyoming.

The Sundance Motel balances the convenience of staying overnight in Pinedale, WY and the easy access to White Pine Ski Area.  From Pinedale, the drive into the Wind Rivers to start your skiing vacation takes between 15 and 20 minutes.  There is a ski rental shop at White Pine for your convenience.

Skiing hard will work up a hunger which can be satisfied at the grill located in the White Pine lodge.  Two chair lifts whisk you up the mountain where you can meander at your own pace down the ski slope.

Update: 12/1/2011.  It sounds like White Pine Ski Area will be closed for the 2012 ski season.

Cross Country Skiing

Some of the best cross country skiing in Wyoming can be found in the Wind River Mountains. Take the same road (Fremont Lake Road) into the Wind Rivers and look for various trailheads to start your skiing trek.

Lodging in Pinedale

Whichever type of skiing you choose, you can find convenient lodging in Pinedale.

When you’re done, load up and descend into Pinedale where you can stay at the cozy Sundance Motel for the night.  Centrally located in Pinedale, the Sundance Motel offers convenient access to restaurants, cafes or grocery shopping for dinner that night.

The Museum of the Mountain Man located in Pinedale, WY is within walking distance of the Sundance Motel.  In fact, you can see the Museum of the Mountain Man (sometimes called MOMM by the locals) on the bluff overlooking Pinedale from the Sundance Motel.

The Museum of the Mountain Man is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Mountain Man.  These hardy trappers were the first non-native explorers in this region.  Pinedale celebrates the fact that many of the first rendezvous in the early 1800s were held in the Green River Valley near present-day Pinedale, WY.
